Experience Our Quick and Affordable Treatment

Cosmetic dentistry refers to treatments performed that improve the appearance of your teeth, gums, and bite. If you are unhappy with your smile, visit us and find out about our most popular treatment options, including:

What is Cosmetic Dentistry?

This area of dentistry primarily focuses on the aesthetics by improving the color, shape, size, position, and alignment of teeth, but can also have a positive effect on oral health. Our experienced team can perform many cosmetic services to treat:

Malocclusion

Misaligned teeth can make it difficult to properly clean your teeth and lead to future dental issues from plaque accumulation. Cosmetic dentistry treatments can address the issue of poorly aligned teeth to improve oral health-related tooth decay, too.

Pain

Misaligned teeth can cause uneven wearing or grinding (bruxism) that can lead to headaches or jaw pain. Muscle tension can put strain on the jaw, causing pain that radiates toward the temples. Treatments to properly align the teeth can eliminate pain and reduce the severity and frequency of headaches.

Embarrassing Stains

Certain acidic foods and beverages like coffee, tea, and wine can stain or damage the appearance of your teeth, as well as habits like smoking or tobacco use. After having cosmetic dental procedures like teeth whitening, you will have a new and improved appearance and improved oral health.

Damage or Trauma

Accidents or poor oral health habits can leave you with teeth that are cracked, chipped, broken, or decayed. We offer a variety of cosmetic options that will improve the way your smile looks by restoring your oral health.

Santa Monica Dental Practice Cosmetic Options

Advancements in cosmetic dentistry technology have increased the number of options that we can offer to enhance the appearance of your smile. Options range from treatments like bonding that can be completed in one visit, to advanced procedures that will straighten teeth over time. Some options are more conservative than others, and the first step to determining what you need begins with a thorough and comprehensive exam.

First, we will examine any dental issues that must be resolved before beginning cosmetic procedures. Then we will work with you to decide what options will work best with your lifestyle and your budget.

Composite Fillings

Composite or tooth-colored fillings can be used in place of traditional amalgam fillings. Made from a resin that is a blend of plastic and glass, composites are blended to match the natural color of your teeth. Composite fillings are ideal for teeth in the front of your mouth that show when you smile. Most fillings can be completed in one visit to our office, and they can last for many years with the proper care.

Composite Bonding

While bonding can be considered a restorative process, it can also be a cosmetic treatment. Bonding treatment is one of the fastest and easiest ways to improve the appearance of your teeth and very affordable. Bonding is a very proactive treatment that can resolve problems before they become more complex and expensive. Reasons to choose bonding include:

  • Correct mild alignment problems
  • Minimize gaps between teeth
  • Make teeth look longer
  • Reshape teeth with worn or chipped edges
  • Improve the color of teeth

Porcelain Crowns

Porcelain crowns are tooth-shaped caps made from ceramic rather than metal. They are ideal for teeth that will be seen when you smile. These crowns can be placed over any tooth to improve your appearance and restore function.

A porcelain crown can improve:

  • Misshapen or discolored teeth
  • Correct extensive wear
  • Repair a large filling
  • Complete dental implants
  • Finish a root canal

Porcelain Inlays and Onlays

Tooth-colored porcelain inlays and onlays are a conservative way to enhance a tooth that has been damaged by decay or trauma or has a large filling. They are often used instead of a crown or to preserve more of the tooth’s natural structure. Both options involve creating the restoration first, then placing it on the tooth. This is different than a filling or bonding that is done directly on a tooth without any fabrication beforehand. Inlays and onlays are a more conservative option than a crown because less of your natural tooth structure is removed.

Porcelain Veneers

Custom-made from ultra-thin porcelain, veneers are bonded to the front surface of a tooth to change its size, shape, and overall appearance. This cosmetic procedure can be the solution for closing unwanted gaps or creating a more uniform appearance. Each veneer is fabricated separately to fit each tooth properly and then individually bonded to provide a strong, durable restoration that looks great.

ClearCorrect Aligners

Depending on the extent of misalignment, we recommend orthodontics. Fortunately, this treatment has evolved over the years, and you can avoid metal braces with wires and brackets. ClearCorrect aligners use a series of custom-made, clear, and removable trays to move your teeth gently.

Once we have determined that ClearCorrect aligners are the right treatment option for you, we will do all the necessary prep work, including photos, x-rays, and impressions of your teeth. You will receive a new set of trays every two weeks, and you need to wear them for 22 hours a day. They can be removed for easy oral hygiene and on special occasions but keeping to the suggested daily treatment time will ensure your alignment issues are corrected entirely and quickly.

In-Office and Take-Home Professional Whitening

Whiter teeth are the number one request for most individuals. Teeth whitening or bleaching is a non-invasive treatment that can brighten your enamel and enhance your smile. Professional whitening can be performed in our office or with a take-home kit. Both in-office and take-home treatments use professional-grade gel for optimal results and less sensitivity. Touch-ups may be needed every few years to remove stains from coffee, tea, wine, or smoking.

The take-home option involves two appointments. During the first appointment, impressions of your teeth will be made to create custom, clear plastic trays for home use. During the second appointment, you will try on your trays to ensure a proper fit. Any needed adjustments will be made, and we will provide the whitening solution and instructions on how to perform your whitening at home.
